Perched on the edge of the Mpumalanga escarpment, Graskop is a small forestry town famed for its views, pancakes and arts & crafts. In the heart of the Panorama Route, Graskop is a popular stopover spot for travellers and tourists. It is often frequented by the scores of bikers who love driving the mountain passes along the Panorama Route.

Graskop has a warm heart and plenty of B&Bs, guest houses, hotels, arts & crafts shops and curio spots. There are good restaurants here - including the original Harrie’s Pancakes, which first made pancakes synonymous with the Panorama Route. The trendy Graskop Hotel is an icon in the centre of the town. You can’t miss the one storey-high reed cactus at the entrance. Graskop is a great place to stop for a few hours, eat, shop, refuel and head out.

From Graskop it’s a gorgeous drive to the highlights of the Panorama Route: God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Blyde (Motlatse) River Canyon. If you’re in the mood for waterfalls, check out the Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and Mac Mac Falls. East of Graskop is the spectacular Kowyn's Pass to the Lowveld and on to the Kruger National Park.

Look out for

Arts & crafts - There is a colourful selection of arts & craft shops, curio shops, galleries and street sellers. Check out Delagoa Trading, next door to the Graskop Hotel. It sells everything from painted fishes, baskets and cloths to handbags, beaded jewellery and wire artwork.

Pancakes and food & drink - Graskop is a refuelling stop for travellers along the Panorama Route, and has a tempting variety of cafes, bistros, restaurants and hotels. Everyone should try a pancake. Then there’s Kannimambo, offering Mozambican and Portuguese food. The restaurant inside the Graskop Hotel serves contemporary French fusion cuisine.

The Big Swing & Great Outdoors - Adrenalin-seekers should head for the Big Swing across the Graskop Gorge. There is also a ‘foefie’ slide (zip slide) across the gorge. And if that's not enough for you, go abseiling alongside Sabie Waterfall.

Blyde (Motlatse) River Canyon & Panorama Route - Graskop is in the heart of the Panorama Route, and it’s an easy drive to God's Window, the Blyde (Motlatse) River Canyon and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

Pilgrim’s Rest - Step west, back in time, to the romantic gold rush days. The quaint little village of Pilgrim’s Rest is a living monument to the colourful and hardy people of the time. A good place for coffee and rural village retail therapy.
