When you head to the Fountains Valley Resort, south of Pretoria in the Groenkloof Nature Reserve, for a day of swimming and outdoor enjoyment, know that you’re not the first to be lured to this scenic spot.
Two natural springs in the Fountains Valley, which pump out 25-million litres of clear pure spring water every day, are the reason why the early settlers established farms in the region and the why the Voortrekker government chose Pretoria as their capital.
History lesson aside, Fountains Valley Resort’s facilities – a large modern pool, kiddies paddling pool, braai (barbeque) facilities, lapas for hire, two play areas, kiosk, a bar and caravan park - mean you won’t need to think twice about where to spend your weekend or public holiday. And did we mention the miniature train that operates on the weekend?
Also at Fountains Valley resort is the popular Moyo restaurant franchise where you can enjoy meals with an African flavour before, or after, going mountain biking, hiking, taking a 4x4 drive or bird watching. Entrance to the play park and the northern side of the resort is free, but there is a fee to enter the swimming pool area.
