Since the mid-sixties, the Goodman Gallery has played an important role in introducing African visual artists to an international audience and promoting emerging contemporary artists from South Africa and the African continent.
The Goodman Gallery focuses on exploring art within the African context, from speaking out against apartheid rule in South Africa, as in the ‘Art Against Apartheid’ exhibition in 1985, or engaging with post-colonial dialogue in modern Africa. Frequent group and solo exhibitions allow art lovers to experience the dynamism of the ever-evolving local art scene.
If you’re interested in contemporary South African art as an investment, the Goodman Galley has in its stable celebrated artists like Sam Nhlengethwa, David Goldblatt, Robert Hodgkins and William Kentridge, among others.
Recently, the Goodman Gallery, which also has a gallery in Cape Town, opened ‘Projects’ at the Arts on Main precinct in Johannesburg. Intended as a showcase for younger and emerging artists, this is an experimental or non-commercial gallery with ample space for installations and unconventional art mediums.
