Located in the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Pass – a World Heritage Site – is the Game Pass Shelter. This is home to some of the best San rock art in the country, and marks the spot where Europeans viewed these paintings for the first time. A walk through the park exposes the beautiful route home these people took from the caves. Lovely flora and fauna are visible and the walk even takes visitors behind a waterfall. Balloch Cottages
12 May 2014

Balloch lies 45km from Barkly East, at the end of a farm track, 5km after you have turned off the local dirt road - literally at the end of the road.  A more restful setting is hard to imagine. The cottages are less than a stone's throw from one of the best known fly fishing rivers in the area, and there are numerous other activities on the farm. For endurance junkies, Balloch is the halfway stop for the annual “Skyrun” and “Wartrail Tri -Challenge” extreme adventure races. You will be hard-pushed to find a more beautiful setting anywhere in the Berg!…

The Factory Café

The Factory Café

Think steampunk style, a big warehouse, and some of the trendiest barista’s you’ll ever meet – that’s what The Factory Café in Durban has to offer if you are coffee-shop hunting! They are known for providing a great environment for all types of people; from young, working class “creative” to families, to businessmen. Their range of coffees and teas are served in an aesthetically appealing fashion, which you can discover for yourself when you visit. My favourite thing to order is a Cocoa Gelato, which is essentially a mix of cocoa, milk and ice but tastes like heaven and is perfect for the hot East Coast weather.

Segwati MTB Trail

Segwati Ranch offers cyclists the refreshing opportunity to ramble with true peace of mind on a beautiful 650-hectare game farm situated just 20 kilometres from Hartbeespoort Dam and only 45 minutes from Pretoria or Johannesburg. There is an extensive network of dirt roads to explore and the non-predatory game inhabiting the farm is accustomed to humans. Tree Dassie Trail

Tree Dassie Trail

This lovely shaded walk in the Woody Cape Section of the Addo Elephant National Park takes its name from the rare tree dassie that lives in the dense Alexandria coastal forest. The well-marked circular trail, indicated by tree dassie signboards, starts at the office and then winds through the indigenous forest to Langevlakte and back to the huts. The trail is a twitcher's delight as the forest is teeming with birds...

#instawalk

#instawalk

They're not just for hipsters and creatives - instawalks are pretty much one of the best ways to intimately experience a place. All you need is a phone with a great camera, a keen eye and some friends. One of the best instawalks I have been on was at the Moses Madiba Stadium. We were granted access to the empty stadium, a mighty sight if there ever was one. After walking around the field and vacant stadium we took a little trip up the side of the stadium on the sidecar. There were #jumpstgrams, scenery shots and even a few selfies.

Mountain Pastures Game Reserve
10 May 2014

Mountain Pastures Game Reserve

Mountain Pastures is situated near Uniondale, just over 80 kilometres from Knysna. Very little was known about the rock art of this region until the late 1990s. However, through the hard work of local farmers and researchers, over 50 sites have been discovered in the area. Nestled in the Cape Folded mountains and covered in dense fynbos vegetation, Mountain Pastures is in a picturesque but seldom visited part of South Africa. There are some excellent drives here - through the Prince Alfred’s Pass ,for example. A visit to Mountain Pastures is sure to cater for a wide range of travellers, not just those interested in rock art...
