Sani Pass Wild Flower Walk
The next Sani Pass (and Lesotho) Wild Flower Walk will take place on Sunday 28th January 2018.
This could be your last chance. The upgrading of Sani Pass has now begun. Work has started on the stretch between Good Hope and the South African border post. No one knows when work on the section we walk, the 8km to the Top will begin, so again we say that this may be your last opportunity to walk to Sani Pass before road works take over.
Add a short walk through the botanical wonderland of the Lesotho plateau to your exciting day on the Sani Pass.
And if that’s not enough of an incentive, how about the fact that this year’s special guest botanist will be fundi, Elsa Pooley, author of Mountain Flowers - A Field Guide to the Flora of the Drakensberg and Lesotho and various other books on trees and flowers.
Geranium pulchrum. The main pic above is Diascia barberae.
Cost: R475 per person includes:
Transport up Sani Pass
90 minutes walking around Sani Top exploring different flowers in a different botanical niche
Accompanying botanical experts
Transport back from SA border post to Giant’s Cup Cafe from 3pm onwards.
The Wild Flower Walk is great value. Note that a day tour with a tour operator in Underberg now costs R860pp. And you will be supporting a good cause – funds raised from this event go towards sponsoring teachers from this area on Environmental Education courses with WESSA at Umgeni Valley.
The species in the foreground are Knipofia, middle ground is Geranium pulchrum and further back is Euryops tysonii.
You need to bring:

Flower books/binoculars/cameras optional.
Meet 06h30 sharp at the Giant’s Cup Cafe, 10.5km down the (tarred) SANI PASS ROAD on the left hand side.
