About

The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a privately-owned game reserve covering about 1 600 hectares of Gauteng’s typical highveld. It is situated adjacent to the "Cradle of Humankind", a World Heritage Site, and is an easy drive from either Pretoria or Johannesburg.

Visitors to the reserve can see rhino, lion, buffalo, hippo and other species of game and, if you are there at feeding time you’re guaranteed to see predators making light work of a good meal.

You can also enjoy a game drive through the reserve. A knowledgeable ranger will tell you about the animals you encounter, which may include endangered species such as cheetah, wild dog and the Cape vulture. You can also arrange to view game from horseback with an experienced guide and the reserve’s observatory allows for star gazing with sophisticated telescopes.

One of the highlights of a visit to the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a visit to the lion cubs – they form part of the reserve’s successful breeding programme. Apart from lions the reserve has bred 18 white rhino calves, wild dogs, Bengal tigers, Siberian tigers and white lions. The reserve also has a vulture restaurant where you can see up to 300 Cape vultures at a time.

There is a pub on the reserve overlooking a watering hole that is home to several Nile crocodiles. Besides a restaurant and children’s play area, there are 30 shaded braai areas, several picnic spots, and a swimming pool to enjoy.
