Kings Kloof Trail Centre, near Krugersdorp on the Laurentia Farm, offers great trails through beautiful valleys. It has mountain ascents, river crossings, natural pools, dense thickets and spectacular views. Kings Kloof is home to a diverse cross section of fauna and flora. The destination makes up part of the popular Crocodile Ramble.
The trails at Kings Kloof are truly stunning, combining sections of jeep track with rugged single-track. Stream crossings, testing ascents and downhills, technical S-bends and the odd scramble are sure to make you come back for more. The good news is that the trail network is well marked, with several route options perfect for all types and levels of runners. The destination only boasts the barest of essentials, so come well prepared as conditions and terrain make for a tough day on the trail.
Park behind Laurentia Farm Stall, fill in the entry book and pay your entrance fee before heading onto the route.
The trail starts with some easy jeep track and then splits from there into five different routes: Black, Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. All differ in distance and levels of difficulty - take your pick and enjoy. Kings Kloof offers off-road junkies a range of trail configurations, including everything from easy jeep track to ankle-snapping single-track.
The 7km Blue Route mixes jeep track and single-track with a few climbs thrown in for good measure. It’s ideal for newbie runners. The 14km Green Route, of a similar technical level, doubles the distance, but is still a relatively easy run.
The three longer trails are all suited to the more experienced trail runners. The 17km Yellow Route requires more respect with river crossings and plunging downhill sections. This route splits to the right before the Black and Red Route, returning along the river with a stiff climb to the finish.
The 20km Red Route tandems with the Black Route before splitting at the mountainous neck. It offers a range of extremely technical and potentially dangerous natural obstacles.
Finally, the 22.5km Black Route is the toughest trail at Kings Kloof. This tortuous trail throws everything at you: tough climbs, sharp technical bends, steep downhills and tricky river crossings. Approach it with extreme caution and run it as part of a group.
Follow the N14 towards Krugersdorp, then turn right at the 4-way traffic light at Silver Star Casino (there is a Sasol garage on the corner). After 6km you will see Laurentia Farm Stall to your left. The entrance and parking are behind the farm stall under the trees.
